A member in the SFERS miscellaneous plan is an active employee who works for the City and County 
of San Francisco in a position that does not meet eligibility criteria as a sworn police officer or as a firefighter and:
- is first certified from a Civil Service list as a permanent employee in a covered job classification; or
- was appointed to a full-time permanent exempt position in a covered job classification; or
- worked in a temporary position in a covered job classification for 1,040 hours in any 12-month period; or
- works for the San Francisco Unified School District or the San Francisco Community College District in a non-certificated position, or the San Francisco Superior Court in a non-judicial position.
Miscellaneous members hired before November 2, 1976, are members in the Miscellaneous Old Plan. Miscellaneous members hired on or after November 2, 1976 are members in the Miscellaneous New Plan.
