When a member is planning to retire, he/she will need to speak to one of our Retirement Services Counselors in order to receive counseling, a benefits estimate, and to complete the 
retirement application process. Members can schedule a counseling appointment to discuss the following types of benefits through our online Retirement Appointment Scheduler:
- Service Retirement
- Ordinary Disability Retirement
- Vesting Allowance
A member's effective retirement date must fall within the month in which the member files his/her retirement application with SFERS.
