The Deferred Retirement Option program (DROP) was established in February 2008 by the voters for certain members of the SFERS Police Plans. As a DROP participant, a member can elect to have the equivalent of a monthly service retirement allowance posted to a DROP account while the member continues to work as an active employee with the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) until conclusion of his/her elected DROP period, or voluntary resignation from CCSF employment.
Eligibility requirements for DROP participation include:
- Occupy an eligible rank (see below)
- An active employee of the SFPD
- At least 50 years of age when entering DROP
- At least 25 years of service credit as a sworn member of the SFPD (including SF Airport Police service)
- A full duty sworn officer.
Eligible Ranks:
- Police Officer – Q2, Q3 and Q4
- Sergeant – Q50, Q51 and Q52
- Inspector – 0380, 0381 and 0382
- Lieutenant – Q60, Q61 and Q62
- Captain – Q80, Q81 and Q82
